Institutes

Center Institutes offer a limited number of participants a 3-5 day intense training program focused on watershed restoration and protection methods and stormwater management.  Currently offered as either a Watershed Institute or a Stormwater Institute, these programs effectively empower local watershed practitioners with the skills, tools, and confidence to assess, design and implement effective programs in their home watersheds. Institutes combine classroom time, design exercises and field visits to provide a comprehensive learning experience. The participants also benefit from the Institute’s caucuses, networking, extensive online supporting materials, and often several hours of consultations with Center staff. 

From 2002 to 2007, the Center organized 12 Institutes, in 8 states, and trained more than 1000 attendees.  Participants represented local and state governments, watershed groups and other nonprofits, and federal agencies from 48 states, four tribal nations, three U.S. protectorates, and three Canadian provinces. Scholarships or registration discounts are often provided to participants from non-profit organizations.
